Description

A classic, refreshing Waldorf Salad made with crisp apples, juicy grapes, crunchy celery, walnuts, and a creamy mayonnaise dressing, perfect for picnics, lunch, or a light side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Dressing:

    • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
    • 1 tbsp white sugar
    • 1/8 tsp salt
    • 1 tsp lemon juice

Salad:

  • 3 apples, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup seedless grapes, halved
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dressing: In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sugar, and salt until smooth. Set it aside while preparing the other ingredients.
  2. Prepare the apples: Core and chop the apples into bite-sized pieces. Toss the apple pieces with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Combine the ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the apples, grapes, celery, walnuts, and raisins (if using). Pour in the dressing and stir everything together until evenly coated.
  4. Chill and serve: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the salad in the refrigerator until ready to serve. This recipe is best served fresh, within a day of preparation, to retain its crunchy texture.

Notes

  • Use sweet, crisp apples like Granny Smith, Fuji, or Gala for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you prefer a lighter dressing, substitute part of the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
  • Toast the walnuts slightly to enhance their flavor.
  • This salad can be prepared a few hours in advance but is best served on the same day.
  • The raisins can be omitted or substituted with dried cranberries for a different twist.
