Description

Create festive and spooky Halloween-themed pretzels using melted chocolate and fun candy decorations. These delightful treats include owls, ghosts, mummies, and wands, perfect for Halloween parties or trick-or-treat gatherings. Easy to make with simple dipping and decorating techniques, these pretzels combine sweet and salty flavors with creative presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Coatings

  • 16 oz milk or semi-sweet chocolate, melted
  • 8 oz high quality white chocolate, melted

Pretzels

  • 16 large pretzel twists
  • 8 pretzel rods

Decorations

  • Oreos
  • Candy eyes
  • Melted chocolate (from above)
  • Melted white chocolate (from above)
  • Chocolate candy melts
  • Black licorice (cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • Fall M&M’s
  • Gold star sprinkles
  • Black or grey sanding sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Spooky Owls: Dip each pretzel twist into the melted milk or semi-sweet chocolate, then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Split an Oreo cookie in half to create eyes and place on top of the pretzels. Freeze for 10 minutes to set the chocolate. Once set, add a small dot of melted chocolate to the center of each Oreo half and attach candy eyes onto the dot. Next, drizzle a line of chocolate above the Oreo eyes to form eyebrows and attach two 1-inch pieces of black licorice on each side to resemble eyelashes. Dot melted chocolate between the Oreo halves and place a fall M&M to form a nose. Optionally, sprinkle lightly with black or grey sanding sugar. Return to the freezer for another 10 minutes to fully set.
  2. Make Spooky Ghosts: Dip each pretzel twist into the melted white chocolate, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Insert two chocolate candy melts to create eyes on each pretzel ghost. Place the tray in the freezer and chill for 10 minutes until set.
  3. Create Spooky Mummies: Dip each pretzel twist into the melted white chocolate and set it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Fill in the three holes characteristic of the pretzel by drizzling extra melted white chocolate into them to resemble mummy bandages. Attach two candy eyes for each mummy and put them in the freezer for 10 minutes to set.
  4. Assemble Spooky Wands: Dip each pretzel rod into melted milk or semi-sweet chocolate and lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze the pretzel rods for 10 minutes to solidify the chocolate coating. Afterwards, drizzle extra melted chocolate vertically up and down each pretzel wand, then sprinkle gold star sprinkles over the drizzle. Return the wands to the freezer for another 10 minutes to allow the decorations to set thoroughly.

Notes

  • Use high quality chocolate for best taste and smooth coating.
  • Freezing after dipping ensures chocolate hardens nicely and decorations stick well.
  • These treats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Alternative toppings can be used based on preference or availability.
  • Be gentle when handling pretzels after dipping to avoid breaking the chocolate coating.
