Description

Magic Six Layer Bars are an easy, no-fuss dessert featuring a crispy graham cracker crust layered with sweetened coconut, semi-sweet chocolate chips, chopped pecans, and rich sweetened condensed milk. Baked to golden perfection, these bars offer a delightful mix of sweet, salty, crunchy, and creamy textures, making them perfect for potlucks, cookie platters, or sharing with friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups (150g) graham cracker crumbs (10-10½ sheets)
  • 1 stick (113g/8 tablespoons) butter, melted

Layers

  • 1 cup (86g) shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1 (12-ounce) package (2 cups/340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (114g) chopped pecans (could substitute walnuts or use a mix)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (regular, not low-fat or fat-free)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9 x 13-inch baking pan by spraying it with non-stick spray or greasing it. Alternatively, line the pan with parchment paper to help with easier removal of the bars after baking.
  2. Make the graham cracker crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Stir with a fork until the mixture holds together when squeezed by hand. Transfer this mixture to the prepared pan and firmly press it down into an even, compact layer using your fingers or the flat bottom of a measuring cup.
  3. Add the layers: Evenly sprinkle the shredded sweetened coconut over the crust layer, followed by an even layer of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Then add the chopped pecans on top. Finally, pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over all the layers, spreading gently with a rubber spatula to ensure it covers the surface without mixing the layers.
  4. Bake the bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 26 to 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the top is lightly browned. Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. For a hint of salty-sweet, optionally sprinkle flaky sea salt on top once cooled.
  5. Serve and store: Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan and place on a cutting board. Slice into 24 bars. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for longer freshness. These bars also freeze well for extended storage.

Notes

  • This recipe yields a perfect balance of sweet, salty, crunchy, and creamy flavors layered over a buttery graham cracker crust.
  • For easier removal and cleaner cuts, lining the pan with parchment paper is highly recommended.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or use a mixture of nuts to customize the flavor.
  • Lightly sprinkling flaky sea salt on top after baking enhances the flavor with a salty-sweet contrast.
  • Store bars in an airtight container to maintain freshness and freeze well for long-term storage.
