Sweet Potatoes
- 8 cups sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks (about 4 large sweet potatoes or 6 to 7 medium sweet potatoes)
- Water (enough to cover potatoes for boiling)
Creamy Additions
- 1/2 cup milk (almond or cow’s milk)
- Pinch of salt
Flavorings
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon
- 6 tbsp maple syrup (add more to taste)
Instructions
- Boil the Sweet Potatoes
Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into large chunks. Place the chunks into a pot, then add enough water to cover the potatoes completely. Bring the water to a boil and cook the sweet potatoes until they are tender, approximately 10–15 minutes. Test their softness by piercing with a fork—they should be very soft for the creamiest result. - Drain and Blend
Once the sweet potatoes are fully tender, remove the pot from the heat and carefully drain the water. Add the milk to the pot and use a hand mixer to blend the sweet potatoes until smooth and creamy. If the consistency seems too thick, gradually add more milk, a little at a time. - Add Flavorings
Stir in the cinnamon and maple syrup. Taste the mixture and, if desired, adjust the sweetness by adding additional maple syrup. - Serve and Enjoy
Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a serving dish and garnish, if desired, with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup. Serve warm and enjoy as a perfect side to your main course.
Notes
- For a creamier texture, ensure the sweet potatoes are thoroughly softened before mashing.
- For vegan or dairy-free options, almond milk works perfectly as a substitute for cow’s milk.
- Feel free to experiment by adding a dash of nutmeg or ground cloves for added warmth.
- Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet, so adjust the maple syrup quantity according to your preference.
