Ingredients
Scale
Cereal Mix
- 4 cups Corn Chex
- 4 cups Wheat Chex
- 2 cups cinnamon Teddy Grahams
Butter Mixture
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 6 Tbsp. light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 2 cups candy corn and/or candy pumpkins
- 2 cups chocolate-covered pretzels
- 2 cups salted sweet potato chips, such as Terra
- 1 cup Reese’s pieces
Instructions
- Preheat and combine cereals: Preheat oven to 250°F. In a large bowl, combine Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, and cinnamon Teddy Grahams to prepare the base mix.
- Mix butter glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, kosher salt, and pure vanilla extract to create a flavorful glaze.
- Coat the mix: Drizzle about one-third of the butter mixture over the cereal mixture. Toss thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly. Repeat this step with the remaining butter mixture in two more increments to ensure every component is well coated.
- Prepare for baking: Divide the coated cereal mixture evenly between two unlined rimmed baking sheets. Spread it out in an even layer for consistent toasting.
- Bake the mix: Bake in the preheated oven, tossing every 15 minutes, until the mix is toasted and crisp. This process should take between 30 to 45 minutes, allowing the glaze to caramelize slightly and the cereals to gain a toasted texture.
- Cool and add treats: Remove the Chex Mix from the oven and let it cool completely. Once cooled, gently fold in candy corn, chocolate-covered pretzels, salted sweet potato chips, and Reese’s Pieces to add sweetness, saltiness, and crunch.
- Storage: For make-ahead convenience, this Chex Mix can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, maintaining freshness for your snacking needs.
Notes
- Ensure even coating of the glaze by drizzling and tossing in batches rather than adding it all at once.
- Tossing every 15 minutes during baking prevents burning and promotes uniform crispiness.
- Use unlined baking sheets to achieve the best toasting results without sticking.
- Allow the mix to cool fully before mixing in the candies and chips to avoid melting or sogginess.
- Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crunch.
