Description

Deliciously rich and zesty Chocolate Orange Truffles made with dark chocolate, fresh orange juice, and a hint of orange zest. These vegan, bite-sized treats are easy to prepare and perfect for festive occasions or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Mixture

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Chop and melt chocolate: Chop or break the bar of dark chocolate into small pieces. Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water and add the chocolate pieces. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  2. Add coconut oil: Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until the mixture is well combined and glossy.
  3. Mix in orange flavorings and sweeteners: Add the freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder to the chocolate mixture. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is completely smooth with no lumps.
  4. Chill the mixture: Place the bowl in the fridge and chill the mixture until it firm enough to shape by hand. This usually takes about 15-25 minutes. Check regularly to achieve the perfect consistency for rolling.
  5. Shape the truffles: Using a small spoon, scoop out portions of the chilled mixture and roll them into balls between your palms. To prevent melting, dust your palms with cocoa powder if they feel warm. If the mixture sticks too much, chill it again briefly.
  6. Coat the truffles: Sprinkle cocoa powder on a plate and roll each truffle ball in the cocoa until evenly coated for a beautiful finish.
  7. Store and serve: Place the finished truffles in an airtight container and store them in the fridge or at room temperature. Serve at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • These truffles are vegan, rich in chocolate flavor with a refreshing twist of orange zest.
  • Ensure your hands are cool or dusted with cocoa powder when shaping to avoid melting the truffle mixture.
  • Adjust chilling times based on your fridge and mixture consistency to get the perfect rolling texture.
  • Store truffles in a cool place or fridge for longer shelf life.
