Ingredients
Scale
For the Cake:
- 300 g White or golden caster sugar
- 250 g Self-raising flour
- 50 g Cocoa powder
- 200 ml Vegetable or sunflower oil
- 100 ml Whole milk
- 3 large Eggs (at room temperature)
- 1 large Orange (zest and juice)
- 100 g Dairy Milk Chocolate Orange (chopped)
For the Frosting:
- 100 g Salted butter (at room temperature)
- 180 g Icing sugar
- 1 tbsp Cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp Boiling water
- 7 Dairy Milk Chocolate Orange Buttons
For Decoration:
- 7 Red Smarties
- 7 Pretzels
- 14 Edible eyes
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake Batter: Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan)/350°F/gas mark 4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, self-raising flour, and cocoa powder. Add the vegetable oil, whole milk, eggs, freshly grated orange zest, and juice from the orange. Mix thoroughly until you achieve a smooth, fudgy batter.
- Add the Chopped Chocolate Orange: Fold in the chopped Dairy Milk Chocolate Orange pieces evenly throughout the batter to add pockets of melting chocolate in the cake.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into a lined or greased 20cm round cake tin. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely in the tin before transferring it onto a wire rack.
- Prepare the Frosting: Beat the salted butter in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the icing sugar and cocoa powder and continue beating until fluffy. Slowly mix in the boiling water to achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency for the frosting.
- Assemble and Frost the Cake: Once fully cooled, frost the entire cake with the chocolate orange frosting using a spatula to create a smooth finish.
- Decorate the Cake: Use the Dairy Milk Chocolate Orange Buttons for the reindeer’s nose, the red Smarties for the red cheeks, pretzels to create antlers on top of the cake, and place edible eyes to bring the reindeer face to life. Position decorations carefully to achieve a cute and festive look.
