Description

This Brioche French Toast Casserole is a delightful and easy-to-make breakfast or brunch option. Rich and buttery brioche bread is soaked in a sweet and flavorful egg mixture, then baked to golden perfection. It’s ideal for serving a crowd and delivers a perfect balance of sweetness and texture in every bite.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Base Ingredients

    • 4 Tablespoons melted butter
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 1 (16 ounce) loaf of brioche bread, sliced

Egg Mixture

  • 9 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish: Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bottom of the dish.
  2. Arrange the bread: Cut the slices of brioche in half and arrange them in the casserole dish. It’s fine if the pieces slightly overlap. Aim to line them up, laying one piece slightly on top of the next.
  3. Mix the egg mixture: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.
  4. Combine bread and egg mixture: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the arranged bread slices in the casserole dish, ensuring that each piece gets soaked.
  5. Let it sit: Allow the casserole to sit for about 30 minutes so the bread can fully absorb the delicious egg mixture.
  6. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the casserole is sitting.
  7. Bake the casserole: Cover the casserole loosely with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly crisp.
  8. Serve warm: Remove the casserole from the oven, slice it into portions, and serve while warm. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The casserole tastes best when served warm, fresh out of the oven.
  • For added flavor, garnish with powdered sugar or fresh fruit like berries.
  • If you prefer a slightly sweeter dish, increase the amount of brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it, then bake it the next morning after allowing it to come to room temperature.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven or microwave.
