Ingredients

			Fruit
- 1 firm, tart apple (like Granny Smith)
Dough
- 1 (8-ounce) refrigerated crescent roll dough (8-count)
Topping
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Additional
- 6 oz Sprite (lemon-lime soda)
Instructions
- Prepare Apple Slices: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Core and peel the apple, then cut it into eight slices. Using an apple slicer can simplify this process.
- Wrap Apple in Dough: Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it. Place one apple slice on the wide end of a crescent dough triangle and roll it up tightly around the apple slice.
- Arrange in Baking Dish: Place each wrapped apple slice seam side down into the prepared baking dish, spacing them evenly.
- Make Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, and all-purpose flour. Stir the mixture until just combined and smooth.
- Add Topping and Soda: Spoon the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over each crescent-wrapped apple. Pour the Sprite into the empty spaces between the dumplings in the baking dish to help create a light syrup during baking.
- Bake Dumplings: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm, ideally accompanied by fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- For best results, use a firm, tart apple like Granny Smith to balance the sweetness and hold shape during baking.
- Substitute Sprite with another lemon-lime soda or sparkling water with a bit of sugar for a different syrup base.
- If you prefer a less sweet topping, reduce sugar to 1/2 cup.
- This dessert is best eaten the same day it is made to maintain dough crispness and overall freshness.
