Description

These Apple Crumble Bars offer a delightful blend of sweet, spiced apple filling atop a tender almond flour crust, topped with a crunchy pecan crumble. Perfect for a healthy dessert or snack, they combine natural sweeteners and wholesome ingredients for a satisfying treat that’s dairy-free and can be adapted to keto and low-sugar diets.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 3 1/2 cups chopped peeled apples (about 3 medium apples)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp coconut sugar or Monk Fruit Sweetener
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tsp arrowroot flour
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Crust

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 2 tbsp arrowroot flour
  • 1/4 cup pecans
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted ghee
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Crumble

  • 1 cup pecans
  • 2 tbsp almond flour
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • pinch salt
  • pinch cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan and oven: Spray a 9×9 baking pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Make the apple filling: Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Peel and chop the apples into small pieces. Add all filling ingredients except arrowroot flour to the pan and stir well. Allow the mixture to heat and cook for about 3 minutes.
  3. Thicken the filling: Stir in the arrowroot flour until fully combined. Continue cooking on medium heat until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency.
  4. Prepare the crust: In a food processor, combine the crust ingredients—almond flour, arrowroot flour, pecans, vanilla extract, melted ghee, maple syrup, and salt. Process until the mixture forms a dough-like consistency.
  5. Press the crust: Transfer the crust dough into the prepared baking pan, pressing and spreading it evenly to cover the entire bottom.
  6. Add the filling: Pour the thickened apple filling over the crust, spreading it out to form an even layer.
  7. Make the crumble topping: In the food processor, add all crumble ingredients and pulse until you achieve a crumbly texture.
  8. Top and bake: Evenly spread the crumble mixture over the apple layer. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crumble topping is browned and the filling is set.
  9. Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with dairy-free vanilla ice cream for the best experience.

Notes

  • To reduce sugar content, substitute the sweeteners with low-carb alternatives such as stevia or Monk Fruit Sweeteners.
  • This recipe pairs excellently with dairy-free and keto vanilla bean ice cream for a complete dessert.
  • Ensure apples are peeled for a smoother texture in the filling.
  • Storing leftover bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator will keep them fresh for up to 4 days.
  • For nut-free modifications, almond flour and pecans can be replaced with sunflower seed flour and seeds.
